What is a bigger issue is the more symbolic nature of things. People had the opportunity to pick a copyleft licence and chose not to. Even if DEI was what they think it is, the Code Talkers are the literal opposite of that. They had skills nobody else had. They were more useful than any white American.
Last fall I finally stopped at the Manzanar internment camp site on Hwy 395 near Independence, CA, after driving past it for years. I just checked the website and it still seems to be open. For now. It's run by the National Park Service and is exactly the kind of place that the fascists would love to sanitize. If you get a chance, the exhibits are well done and the whole experience is very powerful. It's worth spending time walking around on the grounds too.
